It's not my style to piss on anyone's parade but have you been there recently Glenn?

I was there last tuesday and i'm sorry to report it's not what it used to be. Always been a big fan but it really felt like they've been reading their own press a bit too closely and forgotten what made them good.

There were 5 of us, basically they screwed up 2 of the starters, to the point that 1 person ended up eating theirs on their own. They make a big deal about being next door to Billingsgate (as they should) but the £28 !!!! Yes £28 Halibut was quite frankly embarrassing for the money, and the Sea trout which i had was no better!

I've no objection to paying good money for top quality but i'm sorry, £28 in what is essentially a pub for an overcooked fish finger is not what i expect.

J Sheekey's would not dream of serving something so bad and i dare say probably wouldn't be markedly more expensive.

Side orders were about £6 each, and most dishes came with minimal periphery to say the least.

My desert of the "fondant" came out like a brownie and was solid all the way through, the waiter laughed that it was indeed "not a fondant" and returned (again after everyone else had finished theirs) with an acceptable version, but certainly not the "best fondant in the world" he so graciously served it as.

A great shame as i say i've long been a fan of the place, but they've lost a customer in me.

Sorry.

What about a pub that does a decent Sunday Roast? Be fucked if I can find one and not a Toby.

no, rules isn't a pub, but if you want best English food in London, that's where to go.

I guess it's always attracted an amount of tourists due to it's great food, the fact the food is traditional and location....but that doesn't change my answer.

it's the best place in London for traditional English food.

IMHO

Porters also isn't a pub, and it's closed down. It was lovely though.

Denman Arms round the corner from Rathbone Place, not been there in a while though so may have moved on. The pie room upstairs always looked like a separate venture to the pub below...

Excellent you have now turned the thread into another BFS thread, that's a good move because we need more places on here to discuss him.

I think he is a Langans type of a man.
